![]() Laser Treatment for Toenail FungusSome patients have asked about laser treatments for toenail fungus and whether they work. Here's what we've found out. After years of evaluating the development of laser treatments, we are now offering laser treatments in our office for toenail fungus. Since our original analysis, more laser systems have been cleared by the FDA for the "temporary increase in clear nail." We are using the Q-Clear laser system which has shown good effectiveness with almost no risk of pain. As an alternative to Lamisil, which is about 65% effective with a risk of liver function issues, our laser treatment has a significantly lower risk of side effects. In one study of 131 subjects, "All subjects were well satisfied with the treatments, there were no noticeable side effects, and no significant differences were found treating men versus women." As with other forms of fungal nail treatment, lasers still have risks of ineffectiveness and side-effects, but we now think those risks are minor compared to available oral medications. So we can safely suggest that if other treatments have not worked, you should seriously consider our laser treatment for fungal nails as a safer, less invasive alternative.
